Black History Month and SchoolChoice Updates

School Choice Enrollment Window

We are nearing the close of the SchoolChoice 1 window!
Thank you to all the families who have completed the enrollment process during the past few weeks. We enjoyed getting to know you better through the process and supporting you to the best of our ability.

Isn’t it exciting to know in a few short months the Robert F. Smith STEAM Academy will open its doors to the Founding Class of students? There’s still time for you to be a part of this historic moment. Complete your SchoolChoice application today before the window closes at 4 p.m.!

How do I enroll my 8th grade student in the Founding 9th grade Class?
If you would like to be a part of history, there is still time to enroll! You can go directly to SchoolMint, sign in using your Parent Portal Account and submit your SchoolChoice application.

  1. Begin an application for a student by clicking “Add New Student Application” and then follow the steps.

  2. Make sure to select Robert F. Smith STEAM Academy as your first choice.

SchoolChoice applications can be submitted before the Choice window closes today, February 16, 2021 at 4 p.m.

If you have questions about the school or how to apply, click here to schedule a time to speak directly with a school team member.

Please let us know how we can support you before the first SchoolChoice window closes at 4 p.m. today!

Black History Month

The month of February is recognized as Black History Month. Black History Month began as the National Negro History and Literature Week in 1926, a partnership between Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH). The celebration of Black contributions and history was selected because it fell between the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. In 1976, on the 50th anniversary of the first Negro History Week, ASNLH transitioned to a Black History Month.

February 2021 marks the 95th anniversary of Negro History Week and the 45th anniversary of Black History Month.

See our school’s Facebook page for celebrations of the contributions of Black Americans through the humanities, sciences, and inventions that impact our daily life.

American Heart Awareness Month

During the month of February, we also raise awareness of the impact of cardiovascular or heart diseases. Issues related to cardiovascular diseases disproportionately impact the Black community. For resources and recipes, click here!

Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Virtual Open Houses we hosted. It was great having the opportunity to connect with prospective families and community members. If you were unable to attend, you can watch our school presentation and Q&A on our YouTube Channel
